LASIK questions
Q: What is required before I can schedule my LASIK surgery?
A: You will be required to undergo an extensive eyehealth examination. A complete eye health and diagnostic evaluation will be performed. If you wear contacts, you must be out of them for 2 weeks prior to your pre-operative eye exam.
Q: Is all LASIK eye surgery the same?
A: No, there are various types of laser vision correction and LASIK eye surgery. Some of these types of surgeries include PRK, epiLASIK, LASEK, iLASIK allegretto wave LASIK, Custom LASIK (CustomVue, Allegretto Wave, Ladarwave) or wavefront LASIK. LASIK and laser vision correction will even vary from center to center. At Whitson Vision you get a quality LASIK surgeon in Indianapolis and you get a center with modern technology. Come in and see the difference for yourself! Laser vision correction will affect the way you see for the rest of your life. You should make your decision to have laser vision carefully, not quickly.
Q: Are there better procedures than LASIK eye surgery for me?
A: The best thing you can do is come visit us for a vision correction consultation. Dr. Whitson only does what is best for the patient. If LASIK is not a good option there are other vision correction options available. Because Dr. Whitson is a comprehensive ophthalmologist, his surgical skill-set covers other procedures as well.
Q: Are laser vision correction procedures covered by insurance?
A: Few insurance policies cover Laser Vision Correction, however, we would be happy to check yours when you come in for a consult. Remember patient financing plans are also available. Whitson Vision uses both CareCredit and Chase Health Advance for patient financing.
Q: Is there any pain involved with LASIK?
A: Because we make every effort to make sure the eye is numb, patients tell us they feel only slight discomfort, not pain during the procedure. After the procedure, most people report a slightly irritated eye for a few hours, similar to an eyelash getting in your eye. But pain is subjective, and when you learn more about the procedure you’ll form your own opinion of what to expect.
Q: Are there any side effects with Laser Vision Correction?
A: As with any type of surgery, side effects and complications can occur. All potential side effects and complications will be discussed further at the time of the Laser Vision Correction consultation.
Q: Is Laser Vision Correction for everyone?
A: Laser Vision Correction is not necessarily for everyone. The best way to determine your candidacy is with a proper screening and thorough evaluation.
Q: I am very busy at work. What type of time commitment is needed to have LASIK?
A: This is a state-of-the-art procedure, which requires minimal time for the patient. The actual procedure lasts under 10 minutes per eye. Most patients can go back to work the very next day.
Q: Can both eyes be done at the same time?
A: In the majority of all cases, both eyes are done at the same time. But you may elect to have one eye done at a time.
