There is a high correlation between vision loss and hearing loss, especially as we age. These sensory changes often occur at the same time.
Hearing loss is the most common and most frequently undiagnosed, untreated medical condition among our patients.
People with hearing loss often delay getting tested and treated. As with vision correction, early intervention into the reasons for hearing loss and corrective action can likely restore a high quality of life for our patients. There are two main types of hearing loss:
Conductive Loss
Injury to or problems with the bone, eardrum or membranes within the ear cause conductive loss. This type of loss is treated surgically or medically and often will include the use of hearing aids.
Sensorineural Loss
Also known as "nerve deafness," is the most common form of hearing loss. It is caused by damage to the nerves of the inner ear. Although sensorineural loss is not curable, most people (90%) suffering from this type of loss can be helped with hearing aids.
Diagnosis and Treatment:
As with any medical condition, the earlier a hearing loss is detected and treated, the greater the chances are for a successful rehabilitation. Our facility is equipped to provide a comprehensive audiological hearing evaluation. This diagnostic test will provide accurate information on the nature and degree of your hearing loss. Once the initial diagnosis has been made we will refer you for follow-up or a hearing enhancement device best suited to your hearing needs and lifestyle.
New Hearing Aid Technology:
- New technology hearing devices provide you with significant, noticeable improvement in hearing clarity and understanding ability even in a noisy environment.
- New "open fit" technology produces a more "natural" sound quality (no more plugged up or echo sound).
- Hear clearly on the telephone without whistling.
- 100% digital signal means crisp, clear sound.
- Completely programmable to your hearing loss – even if it changes in the future.
- New modern designs are virtually invisible and so comfortable you may even forget that you are wearing one.
After you have purchased your hearing instrument you will be asked to schedule regular hearing wellness check-ups. At these appointments, we will clean your hearing devices to make sure they are working at maximum performance. We will also inspect your ear canals for wax or other potential problems.
