Types of Lenses

Single Vision
Single Vision lenses are prescribed for someone that needs correction for either distance or near.

Bifocals with line/Trifocals
Bifocal lenses are prescribed for someone that needs correction for both distance and near.  Trifocals are prescribed for someone that needs distance, intermediate, and near correction.  When there is more than one field of vision that needs to be corrected, these types of lenses are called multifocal lens.

Progressive No-line Bifocals
The latest technology today is a multifocal lens without lines.  This lens provides the most natural vision, without any interruptions from lines as in traditional multifocal lenses.  The lens is more cosmetically pleasing because no one can tell you are wearing bifocals.

Computer Progressive Lenses
This is a very unique lens design for the person that works on computers most of the day.  The design is very similar to the regular progressive lenses except the intermediate and near has a much larger area for viewing the computer monitor and keyboard.  This lens has no distance vision.

Lens Treatments

Lens treatments enhance your eyewear and your vision.  There are many different choices for your needs and lifestyle.

Anti-Reflective Coating (Non-Glare)
Ordinary lenses reflect some light away from your eyes, forcing them to work harder.  This causes eyestrain and fatigue and reduces glare during nighttime driving.  With anti-reflective coating, you see clearer and you experience less eye fatigue.  The lenses also have a superior scratch coating to reduce scratches.

Tints
Cosmetic tints for your eyeglasses can reduce light that enters your eyes.  There is a wide variety of shades and tints.  The coating on these lenses is permanent.

Polarized Sun Lenses
These lenses help reduce glare with a special polarized film.  They come in many colors and they block out 100% of the UV rays.  They are great for outdoors sports such as fishing and boating.  Polarized lenses are very beneficial for driving.

Mirror Coatings
These lenses have a mirror like surface that reflects harsh light rays emitted from surfaces such as water, snow, and ice.  This coating is the ultimate for sunglass performance.

Ultra Violet (UV) Protection
UV protection is applied to your lenses to reduce the risk of cataracts and cancer of the skin around the eyes.  This protection works as a UV blocker that comes from sunlight, fluorescent lights, TV, etc.  There is no visible color to the lenses.

Crizal Lens
A new glare-free lens that combines anti-reflective coating and a scratch resistance into one lens that clarifies and provides more distinct vision.  Crizal lenses allow 99% of light to transmit through the lens.  This helps reduce eyestrain, reduce halos from on-coming headlights, is very easy to clean, and allows for a more cosmetically appealing lens by reducing reflections.  This lens has an unmatched one year scratch warranty.  If it scratches within one year, it is replaced with no further charge to you.  (This does not include loss of frame and/or lenses.)

Transitions
New and improved plastic and polycarbonate lenses that are photochromic, changing from light to dark to light as you move between indoors and outdoors.  These newer generation lenses change quicker in the sun (in about 30 seconds) and get lighter indoors than the older generation lenses.  These lenses are UV protected, making them a great adjunct to regular sunglasses, but not a substitute; your car windshield prevents the darkening of these lenses.

Progressive Addition Lenses (PAL) (a/k/a “No-line bifocals”)
These lenses eliminate those annoying bifocal lines from your lens and improve your range of vision for distance, near and everything in between.  We carry Varilux progressive – the ultimate in quality and comfort.  You should get the best lens available, and at Whitson Vision we offer you that!
